| After waiting over a month for my fingerprints to be cleared I finally decided to call them to see what was going on. Two phone calls later I discover that my prints are not in the system, despite paying $115.00 and having no criminal convictions, a trip to HQ was needed. Here's the last 90 seconds of my delightful experience at the DoE HQ.
DoE: | So... Let me explain this to you slowly.
Elfie: | *nods*
DoE: | There was nothing wrong with your prints, they weren't lost or anything.
Elfie: | Uh huh.
DoE: | The issue was that our system simply got confused because your SSN started with an 8.
Elfie: | *worried, thinking that it might have to do with my status in the US* So... I can't be fingerprinted?
DoE: | Oh no! It's just that most people's SSN starts with zeros, or a lower number, and our system has never had someone with a SSN starting at such a high number so it didn't register.
Elfie: | *is your system a freaking two year old?* So now what?
DoE: | We are slowly updating the system but we will register you in manually.
Elfie: | Thanks.
| Come on DoE! It's 2012, we're 12 years past Y2K, get your act together! |
